In some households, the human gets things going, then the dogs follow. In other households, the dogs let the humans know it is time to get out of bed. The dogs might even jump on the bed or bark until the humans get up.

Misha only wakes me up if it is urgent. Meaning, she has to go to the bathroom. On most mornings, she lays in her blanket and she waits for me to rouse. She doesn't crawl out until I am dressed. I don't lock her crate any more. A couple of mornings I've gotten up to find her crate door wide open, but she is still inside.

Who wakes up first in your house? Are you able to start your routine before the dog gets up? Does your dog let you know when he/she is ready to get up and you better be out of bed?

LOL Not only do I get up first I swear I have a house full of teenagers! My dogs will not crawl out of the covers until almost noon...if they do, it's only to move from the bed to the couch, I swear they must get out of bed after I fall asleep and stay up partying until right before I wake. Kotton has always been like this, even as a baby, the other two were kennel trained and kennel slept until they were 6 months old so they go up when I did, got their puppy play done in the living room where they wouldn't disturb Kotton (the little princess) and were usually fast asleep in whatever odd spot they picked by the time Kotton strolled out. Now we all sleep together and I don't see them till noon either...

When I sleep, Candy is on guard under my bed. So I can't say that I wake up first because she doesn't sleep at night. Once, I felt her moving out from under the bed. I opened my eyes just a very little bit and pretended to be still asleep. She looked me over, then decided that I was still asleep and went back under the bed to her guard post.

    The dog does!

He's really awesome and will mostly let me sleep. As soon as he sees the first wiggle, though, even if I'm not awake enough to even know I'm wiggling, he's waiting. He sits in front of the bed and if I take too long, he'll start whimpering or nudging my arm.

I get up late usually and so the dogs get up first. And I do have a dog before that would wake me up at 8AM by licking my face. What would I do is just give her a hug or greetings and then go back to sleep. LOL

LOL Your boy sounds like Kotton with my girlfriend. She doesn't live here full time and when she is home I can often hear (I get up first usually) "Kotton I'm still sleeping!" and I know that means she wiggled and Kotton pounced with face drenching kisses LMAO Kotton used to do it to me but now I don't exist if the girlfriend is anywhere nearby...so I think she deserves it LOL

My cat wakes us up first, most of the time. My dog is crated at night, so she doesn't have this advantage. However, we have kept her out of her kennel a few nights so see how she would do and she was up by like 6:30. This is way too early for us.

Just curious. Is there anything in particular that he wants you to get out to bed to do for him? Like let him out to do his business?

Victor, my brother had a Doberman with similar protective qualities. They had to crate her at night because she was literally on guard all night. This meant that she walked from window to window to door checking all locations. When she got to the last door, she would start checking everything all over again. She'd bark at the slightest noise.

Needless to say, having a dog walking circles around the house all night was a tad annoying for them. Once she was locked in her crate, she would relax and sleep.

I am usually the first to greet the day. Gix is usually up and at'em by the time I get my morning java on. If the weather is nice the 2 of us sit on the deck, I sip my coffee and he prowls around the yard trying to discover new things. Eventually Gizmo finds his way to the door, guess he stays up too late watching Animal Planet, and looks at me until I get up to let him out to join us. He could care less about prowling around the yard. If it's raining , all bets are off we all go back to bed.

That is a very good watch dog. Your brother might be able to train it not to bark. Then it would be perfect. Candy, fortunately, doesn't prowl. I think she's confident that she can handle anything that turns up so she just waits patiently under my bed.

LOL It could be Gizmo is up online talking to my girls. I always tell my girls "no puppy porn and no chatting with strangers" and they just look at me like I've lost my mind. And yea Kotton despises rain, she is actually terrified of storms and will coming from wherever she is if she hears the rain. Kash and Koko do whatever Kotton tells them to.

Lol! Aww. That's kind of how it is with my mom. If she's in the house, he would much rather be with her and will act as though I don't exist unless he's hungry. He knows I'm the one who will feed him, so he'll come to me for that, but will follow her around the rest of the time.

Yep! It's just part of his morning routine. Sometimes he's already been let out by someone else to do his "business" but he still wants me to get up and feed him. It doesn't matter if it's 6 am or 11 am. He doesn't seem to care what time, so long as I wiggle and then get up to take care of the routine, hehe.

It depends a lot on the time of year. My Australian Shepherd is a very early riser. He lives on a dairy farm, so he is accustomed to going out there at around 5AM every morning. You can expect him to be howling by your bedside every morning at around 4:30.

Right now, I'm still dog-sitting for my friend. Her dog, Lucy, always wakes up before me! I usually roll out of bed later during the summer. Her dog has me on my feet at 8AM, if not earlier, to go outside to use the bathroom and then have breakfast. It's a good routine though, so I don't mind it much at all.

My dog wakes up first, then he wakes everyone else up with his barking. He goes to sleep very early, around 8 p.m. so in the morning he is full of energy and ready to play. Unlike me;)

The dog wakes up to wake up the lazy person in bed. But this isn't because she needs to go out, she just wants to wake someone up. It usually happens at 8 am, give or take a couple of minutes. And that's great because I wouldn't need to wake up my boyfriend anymore who's one of those people who sleeps like a rock.

Both of my dogs, come into our bedroom and poke us with their noses, until we wake up. Sherlock makes daft sounding noises like a Wookie, and Lily wags her tail so it beats against the bed. If we don't get up then, Sherlock will put both paws on the side of the bed, and shove the WHOLE BED, until we roll over and get out of it.
