Some Dog Breed Nicknames

    Dachshunds are called Hotdogs often times. Papillons are known as the "Butterfly Dog". Some dog breeds have been given nicknames because of their various traits. Here are some I've picked up.

    Great Dane- The Apollo of Dogs

    Collie- The Lassie Dog

    Affenspinscher- The Monkey Dog

    Basenji- The Barkless Dog

    Boston Terrier- The American Gentleman of Dogs

    Pugs, Old English Sheepdogs, Irish Water Spaniel- The Clown Dog of the World

    Whippet- The Poor Man's Racehorse

    In Malaysia, the bulldog is called the Guiness Stout dog because Guiness Stout uses a picture of a bulldog as its logo. I think the bulldog they used as a model is an English bulldog.
