Charlie was one of the many pet victims of last Friday's devastating fires in Tasmania. It was great to hear the government will put in place 3 vets to look at animal fire victims. Charlie was a lucky one to be treated so fast.
Listen to the vet talk about Charlie on this link...

This is great to hear! It makes me so happy he is better. It's only a little pug who is so far away but I really do think about him and worry and I hope he'll be healthy and happy soon!

I think that's what we have in common on this forum. We love dogs and can't bear to think they suffer.
I guess that why we tend to post positive stories as a lot of animals in the world have such an appalling life and we are alarmed by this.

Glad to hear Charlie is doing much better. It's hard to imagine what he must have gone through. Looks like he's feeling much better and that is GREAT news.

It really warms my heart to see governments willing to put out help for animals as well. I was really thrilled when Hurricane Sandy was going to hit and they announced shelters who were going to allow pets to be taken in, too.

I'm glad Charlie is doing better!

So true that pets can be tolerated in these circumstances. When people needed to flee the fires pets were allowed on public ferries. This must be a first that I know of. I guess it was so people would evacuate and not stay.

Yes, I remember back with Hurricane Katrina. People refused to evacuate because they weren't allowed to take their pets with them. Some of these people lost their lives because of that reason. So, fortunately we did learn some things from that tragedy such as our pets are just as much a member of our family. By the way anymore updates on Charlie and how he is doing?

I really don't understand why people weren't allowed to take their pets with them during Katrina, it was such a cruel rule. I wouldn't go anywhere without my Homer. I couldn't leave him. I wouldn't be able to stand the thought of him being terrified and alone. It would break my heart.

I know, it looks so cute:D . I hope these 'socks' he wears don't annoy him too much. As far as I know most of the dogs don't like to have anything on their paws. I know my Homer would hate it.

Being a bloke I never noticed this. I guess the lovely staff gave so much interest in his recovery they smothered him with love and colour.:)

Latest news from the animal hospital site treating Charlie.:)

Charlie the pug with burns to half his body went home and comes in daily for bandage and wound checks. He will be in shortly and his bandages will be off. YEY!

Wonderful news - so he is allowed to leave the hospital:D . I'm sure he is happy even though he met so many nice people there:) . I hope his house wasn't destroyed by the fire?

    Hi everyone,
I don't know if anybody still checks this post, but I needed to reply.
    I am Charlie's owner, Rebecca.
I was doing a google search for the 1 year anniversary story on little Charlie when I came across this page.
Last year I read so many stories by so many different people. I am pleased to see that nobody put their own spin on it here.
Thedailymail.uk was probably the worst I read, they wrote things that were hurtful and untrue - main one being that we abandoned our pets...this made me wild, as my pets are my babies! We had no chance to save them or our home as we were away on the day and could not return as the roads had been closed. If there had been any fire warning that day, we would not have been away.

A year on, Charlie is doing great :) he made a full recovery and only has a few scars where his fur won't grow back.
Sadly, my other babies are still missing. Thats the hardest part to deal with. I never give up on them though, I'm sure they are safe with somebody. I just hope that wherever they are, they are happy, healthy and getting all the love they deserve.

    Love that last photo. :)
Good thing there are assigned vets there. Hope the situation of animals there as well as residents will become better.
