Does anyone feed their dog vegan dog food? I did so in the past and I found that my beagle did very well on it. The only thing is, it was very expensive. I have switched to a salmon-based dog food that is still good quality, but less expensive. I have also considered supplementing with "human" foods. Every time I cut up vegetables for dinner, my dog goes crazy waiting for pieces to fall! Do any of you supplement dog food with raw foods?

My dog loves vegetables with all his heart, especially carrots, but he loves meat too so I wouldn't like him to be on a vegetarian diet even though I'm a vegetarian myself. I don't know, it just doesn't seem natural when it comes to dogs.

I understand how you feel. I did feed my last dog, a black lab, completely vegan food, and some veggies for treats, and she lived until 15 and a half though! I believe you need the commercial vegan food, because it has balanced levels of protein and all of the other things that dogs need (rather than always making their food yourself).

My sister's dog is on a vegetarian dog food because of her seizures. The Vet recommended it because of some issue she was having two years ago.

My dog loves food. Period. She loves vegetables. She gets a baby carrot when I make my lunch. You would think that I had handed her the world. She loves broccoli and peas, too.

I wouldn't feed a dog a vegan diet for any reason, (unless a vet told me I HAD to) full stop. Some dogs might love veggies and stuff, but they're missing out on the protein sources of meat, especially on a vegan diet. I find people feed their dogs vegan diets to satisfy their own vegan lifestyle choices, and not the health of their dog.

Dogs are definitely carnivores. After all they are directly descended from wolves. They need meat. However, their digestive system can handle a large variety of other foods also. Treat your doggy friends go good vegetables, but don't deny them meat. Of course this is just my opinion.

We have. However, it is so expensive and I'm not sure if the health benefits are really that great. I agree with teamrose. They do need meat. Not only meat, but some is probably necessary especially when they're puppies.
