A list with a lot useful tips on how to quit smoking :) I will definitely show this list to my fiance, but I must admit some of those tips are easier to say than to do.

I have known many people who smoke, and successfully quit for a long time. Then life spins with some sorts of emergency or changes, and they are back on smoking. For many, smoking gives them a chance to relax and let goes of whatever troubles they are facing. It might not sound like a reasonable excuse, but it is how ONE person deals with the situation.

These are useful tips, but like you said, "easier said than done"!

There are far better ways to deal with stress than smoking, believe me. I'm going thru a very difficult stressful time right now, but I'm still on track. Exercising helps a lot too. I'm dealing with this my own way, mostly trying to keep my mind busy. I only hope my fiance can quit smoking and when he faces something stressful doesn't go back to smoking. Relapse is common during a stressful time. I hope is not his case.

Eating a meal, coffee, alcohol, being with friends who smoke, were all triggers for me. I could not do ANY of these things without a cigarette! When I was trying to quit, I had to change my entire routine around. It was really difficult, but when I hung out with my smoking friends, I was definitely going to smoke! It's the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with!

Sorry to hear about the stress you're dealing with right now, @Trellum and I hope it will ease up soon for you. I believe when a person hasn't made up his/her own mind to quit, the will to do so isn't there so it is easier to have relapses.

Thanks, icyBC :) I'm feeling better, I always feel so stressed after seeing the doctor, lately they rarely pay any attention to the patient, you have a question and refer you to another specialist! So bothersome! And yeah, you are right, those who quit and don't mean it relapse :(

Wow, did you manage to quit for good? I guess my fiance is lucky he has no friends who smoke, he smokes alone most of the time. I think for social smokers is ever harder to quit! Specially with friends that seem to wonder why you'd want to quit. Some people are so comfortable being smokers... I can't understand how they can be so calm. I'm very stressed as it is with my own health issues, imagine adding more anxiety to the mix?

@Tomi Thanks :) I know I am the best for him, he couldn't find someone as sweet, patient and loyal (had to put up with a lot crap from his family lately) as me ;) I doubt he will anytime soon, he seems too comfy with his addiction.

Hang in there girl. You believing in him might be just what he needs right now. Keep encouraging him and he will come around to quitting the habit. Great to know there are still good girls around!

Aw, you are so sweet :) And yes, i will try to do my best not to nag him, it's been 3 weeks since the last time I nagged him :p I now only ask him how many cigarettes he has smoked during the day, but nothing more ;) I am hoping you are right and sooner or later he quits on his own.

The most effective way is love. I'll explain. I have a neighbour who was a passionate smoker for 40 years. He got a grandchild recently and the baby had some lung related problems. His daughter asked him not to smoke when child is there and by the hand of destiny they moved to live together. He just quit cigarettes. That day when they moved in. He is happy with his grandchild who is 4 years old now and feeling okay.
